For millennia, Jewish, Berber & Sufi women lived alongside each other in Morocco. We have been sisters, friends and collaborators. Al Kahina is a rediscovering of this shared weaving. Al Kahina is a returning to spiritual roots and ancient ways, a reclaiming of the sacred paths and power of women living close to the earth, in connection with ancestral traditions and each other.

We are inspired in our work and lives by Dahiya al Kahina, the 7th century Berber (Amazigh) Warrior-Queen.  Al Kahina is an Arabic title meaning prophetess, seer or priestess, with the same root as kohenet, the Hebrew word for priestess.  Many say Dahiya al Kahina descended from the Jarawa, a Jewish berber tribe. 

We ~ Salima, Taya Mâ & Zina ~ journey together, called by Spirit and be the spirits and ancestors of place ~ to reveal al Kahina here and now.  We engage prayer, sacred song, dance, arts, healing plants and adornment. We pilgrimage to the graves of Jewish and Sufi saints, and make ceremony with local elders and wisdom keepers. When we come together to explore our roots and our heritages, we grow from immersing in what is shared and in what is distinct.  

We are delighted to invite you into this experience ~ travel as ceremony ~ a multi-faith pilgrimage in celebration and discovery of the priestesses of ancient time, to hear Her call.

We hold this journey as a sacred one honoring ancestral lands, weaving distinct and shared goodness of Maghrebi Jewish, Sufi & Amazigh (Berber) cultures and rediscovering the blessings of Al Kahina in our time. 

We ask that participants come with sacred intention and reverent curiosity.  We welcome applications from those who are clearly called to this journey, and are particularly welcoming of those who have lineage, experience with or desire to deepen their connection to Maghrebi (North African) Jewish, Sufi Muslim or Amazigh cultures. We are discerning a potent group through our application process.
